Always this ridiculous obsession about love!
-Christian's father, Moulin Rouge
I think under my guise of impassiveness, I am at heart a sentimentalist. Maybe that's why I still enjoy watching movies about two people meeting together and falling in love. Certainly that is one of the many reasons why I like Moulin Rouge. And as Gabe has mentioned in his blog, yes I have watched this movie too many times (twice in the theaters, six times at home and other places, once even with commentary).
A story of love, a labour of love… how can one not appreciate the effort that director Baz Luhrmann put into this movie? A movie that mad me laugh and cry (well, almost).
Growing up in a musical background, I can especially appreciate the medleys that were constructed for this film. I'm sure everyone still remembers the "Elephant Love Medley". I am still amazed at how Luhrmann was able to blend all those songs together. Now, let's look at the song from my movie/audiophile personality…
yes… the following will be the (near) complete lyrics of the Elephant Love Medley WITH… the song names that were used in this arrangement.
All you need is love (A girl's got to eat)
All you need is love (She'll end up on the street)
All you need is love
Love is just a game
All You Need Is love, The Beatles
I was made for loving you baby
You were made for loving me
The only way to love me baby
Is to pay a lovely fee
I Was Made For Lovin' You, KISS
Just one night, give me just one night
There's no way cause you can't pay
One More Night, Phil Collins
In the name of love, one night in the name of love
You crazy fool, I won't give in to you
Pride (In The Name Of Love), U2
Don't leave me this way
I can't survive without your sweet love
Oh baby, don't leave me this way
Don't Leave Me This Way, Thelma Houston
You'd think that people would have had enough of silly love songs
I look around me and see it isn't so
Some people want to fill the world with silly love song
Well what's wrong with that, I'd like to know
Silly Love Songs, Paul McCartney
Cause here I go again
Love lifts us up where we belong
Where eagles fly on a mountain high
Love makes us act like we are fools
Throw our lives away for one happy day
Up Where We Belong, Joe Cocker & Jennifer Warnes
We could be heroes just for one day
(You will be mean, and I'll drink all the time)
We should be lovers, (We can't do that)
We should be lovers and that's a fact
Though nothing will keep us together
We could steal time just for one day
We could be heroes forever and ever
We could be heroes forever and ever
We could be heroes just because
Heroes, David Bowie
I will always love you
I can't help loving you
I Will Always Love You, Whitney Houston
How wonderful life is, now you're in the world.
Your Song, Elton John
So there you go. I will definitely write about Groundhog's Day tomorrow.
Countdown to school: 7 days left…
